Required Training to Become a Foster Parent 

Foster Parent Training – PRIDE (Parent Resources for Information, Development, and Education)
This 6-week course (total of 40 hours) is required by the state of Florida to become a licensed foster parent. Classes start every two to three months, with two class schedule options, weekdays, or weekends, to fit your schedule. View schedule

Kinship Caregiver Level I licensing pre-service
Caregiver preparation training with an overview of the child welfare system, law and court proceedings, roles and responsibilities of child welfare professionals, your legal rights, expectations and responsibilities, and much more.

Water Safety
Learn how to protect young children from drowning, a leading cause of death. Learn safety precautions, and to conduct your own in-home water safety survey.

Psychotropic Medications Training
Learn common mental health diagnosis in youth, commonly prescribed medications, possible side effects and alternative treatments. Once you’ve successfully completed the training, a certificate will issued.

Trauma-based behavior training

Quality Parenting Initiative Training
Just in Time Training, connects foster parents, kinship, or other caregivers with training, peer experts, and other resources. Get practical solutions to care for children, with answers to commonly asked questions.

Emergency Preparedness Training
Be prepared in the event of an emergency (hurricane and other situations such as a tornado, fire, bomb threat, or shooter). Know who the team leads are, who to contact and what to do.
