On Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, 15 children found permanency through adoption in a Halloween-themed adoption finalization. The Circuit 4 clerks of court and court staff and support turned the fourth floor into a trick-or-treat wonderland for the families, complete with candy stations, photo opportunities and a carnival themed game and popcorn station. Adoptions staff for Family Support Services and partner agencies also dressed up to support the Halloween theme, including Disney princesses and Gru and the Minions in their costume array.
“Unfortunately, a lot of sad things happen at the courthouse, and often there’s a lot of conflict,” Judge Michael Kalil said. “But today’s one of those days where the courthouse can celebrate one of those positive things that happens here.”
Eight-year-old Ileana, whose adoption by her grandfather Jesse was finalized along with her two younger siblings, acted as honorary bailiff for the very special day.
