May is National Foster Care Month, and in Duval and Nassau counties, Family Support Services is leading the community of care with our partners to serve children and teens in the child welfare system and reunify them with their families. And as Sandra Schofield, FSS foster home recruitment specialist explains, there is a particular need for families to support sibling groups and older children, including teens.
One of the most rewarding things in this work “is being able to see how these families are positively impacted” from being these children into stable, temporary homes and providing the love and support they need. For anybody possibly interested in becoming a foster parent in Duval or Nassau counties, FSS offers convenient virtual sessions and always encourages people to learn more about fostering, trauma (like with TBRI training) and how to support children and families in care — all information available through Family Support Services.
